Purpose: Signer swears or affirms the truth of a document.

  • Involves an oath or affirmation

  • Oath pledges to an higher authority 

  • Affirmation: A formal statement of truth made in one’s honor.

    Used in: Court proceedings, sworn statements, or legal declarations

4. Copy Certification

Purpose: Certifies that a copy of an original document is true and complete.

Common uses:

  • Diplomas

  • Passports

  • Driver’s licenses (in some states)

5. Signature Witnessing

Purpose: Notary witnesses the act of signing (identity verified, but no acknowledgment or oath required).

  • Used in: Less formal agreements, business transactions

Who Performs Notary Transactions

  • Document must be completed entirely with no blank spaces.
